If the cover is not painted, do you have the correct rubber insert for the edge of the cover?

If not you need to be sure to install after painting and before you assemble the ring and the cover.

To install the cover ring will require to to first put the end of the cover ring opposite of the small ring on the cover ring on to the tire at the bottom, while at the same time you twist the ring away from the tire and gradually move the cover ring toward the tire.

This type of twist will keep the cover ring away from the cover and the rubber insert in the cover will protect the paint as the ring is installed all around the tire. I hope this will help.
