Just about all of high-end European cars use the "soft, flimsy stuff". I have used it and like it. Granted, it is out of place a a high point restoration, but for a modified vehicle, I really like the looks. I also think it would look especially nice with the stainless or cad-platted rock guards (unless there would be a galvanic conflict).
