They go left or right; same both sides. But I’ve seen lots of broken and repaired hollow ones. Also, the hollow ones tend to get loose pieces of something that rattle around like a BB in a bottle

Years ago I ended up with a set of hallow irons. I wondered about their strength. The pair I had were in very good shape overall as I recall. I sold them to help pay for other parts like usual.
I was just bringing up what I have run across over time. I do not know what it all means in facts.
I was wondering about the reported 1/4" difference reported above. I mean a 1/4" means little in the end as there is plenty of room to move the upper bracket. But factory wise the jigs were likely set to within 1/16" or better. I did have a pair where the wear at the center plus the wear at the ends would account for over 1/4", but they were obviously bad. I did fix them and they will be on my car.
