flatfordV8: I have seen the following done.

If the A-pillars and floor are structurally solid and the door opens ,closes and latches without any "droop", carefully grind back the edge of the door and then reweld and finish grind and file the edge to the gap you want. It's not as scary as it sounds. "Tack weld and let cool. Tack weld and let cool. etc." However, try the shim idea first.
