Default Re: Universal Joint Cover

U-Joint Cover Gasket
I have been trying to figure out a better solution to the rectangular cork gasket that leaks at the back of the transmission in the clam shell that covers the U-Joint.
I found a rubber gasket that is 5/16 x 5/16 that is used for industrail hose couplings. It is only 2 inches in side diameter so it does have to be cut at the joint between the top and bottom of the clam shell. They do have a 4 inch gasket, but it is 5/16 by 3/8 and that makes the fit too tight and it will not squish down any.
They also told me that they use E6800 sealer for areas like the joint between the clam shells.
We put one together and clamped on the end of a drive shaft and, with a little grease, it does feel really good.
I have not yet installed my motor and transmission to be sure that this solution will work, but it sure looks better than the cork solution.
The number on the gasket is 20YST BUNA 5/16 gasket, $1.90 each.
These gaskets are used for quick coupling industrial hoses
