Here you can see the roof layers peeled back.
Exterior black covering, layer of cotton, burlap, some type of treated fabric, and finally a stiff paper / cardboard type material.
Is all that original?
The stiff paper / cardboard type material is also sandwiched between the exterior black covering and the interior covering seen below on the sides of the roof. Near the bottom of the picture the interior cloth is missing exposing the cardboard.
