Thankyou for the reply. The head and block were cleaned with the head off to fit a new head gasket. Not like a rebuild when cleaning is easier so the cleaning wasn't squeaky clean. I would think very little rust will be loose in system now. The temp didn't get hot by1, the temp gauge on the cap and 2, one of those infra red temp readers, the point and read type. Don't recall the correct name for them. cheers, gary
