As pethoovie said, it is a 2 man job to check the tie rod ends and steering linkage. with the vehicle on the ground, have some one turn the steering wheel back and forth from left to right, just enough to take the "feel " of the slack out of the steering with out actually turning the wheels. look for play on the tie rod ends and the rest of the steering linkage. king pins are checked differently
