Finely back at my computer. Ford switched from ground activated starter solenoids to power activated around 1956 when they changed to 12v systems. Attached is a diagram and photo of a 6v solenoid, the terminal that the battery connects to is important on these and should be marked. The second diagram is of a 12v solenoid Ford used after 1956. Problem is, there are several different styles (different wiring requirements) of both the 6v and 12v solenoids that look very similar to the OEM ones, so best to check and see what you have.
