The solenoid is a switch. A pass through voltage charge that activates a "plunger" with opposite charge. +/-


No procedure. It doesn't care what end get's hooked up and when. Not like a voltage regulator.


The button completes the circuit. Adding the - on a + ground system. Technically it will work either way to polarity. On a solenoid.


Same system up to the 70s, except for a 4th pole around the 50s for direct coil voltage override on starting. Same it is only active when the circuit is complete and then is off once the key are start button is released.


If you have a solenoid that is not isolated... why Guess I don't know. I remember hopping my 70 dodge swinger with a screwdriver off a ground and the starter post.
