I have a '35 with original radio. I know the long bolts look out of place sticking up so high. This is not a misfit arrangement. You need the long bolts to drop down the radio so it can be removed. Installing the radio you merely slide the radio under the drop-down holt heads and draw the radio up to the insulating board. If done this way you should have no cuts in the sounding board. If the length of the exposed bolts bothers you could cut a couple of pieces of short rubber tubing and slide it over the bolt threads to give things a somewhat finished look..
