Many questions, but not many answers. Everyone must be on vacation .
No problem, as i'm answering most of my own questions as i'm going along.

I figured out how to get the belt-line trim molding off. It's easy with the right tools. Took me about an hour and with no damage to the molding or the car body. The molding looks perfect. No rust, cracks, or dents.
