Default An interesting oil pan

I thought I would share this with you guys:
So a few days ago while out for a drive in my roadster a horrible knocking sound started and luckily we were not too far from home. I was dumbfounded because the car still ran just fine with the noise so I thought it could be nothing major, right? My son was adamant that it had something to do with the oil. I on the otherhand was worried we would have to pull the engine. So I call up Ken Ehrenhofer and he came out today. We ruled out the water pump, alternator, and the timing gear. So we decided to pull the oil pan and voilą! The tray was not fitted properly in the pan and was bouncing around causing that loud, metal to metal knocking. Somebody probably did not know what they were doing and simply dropped the tray in not realizing that it snaps in with the tabs. Luckily it was something simple, for once. My son is very happy that he was right and I was wrong! While we have the pan off we are going to replace some gaskets to take care of that annoying oil leak we have been having trouble with, along with repainting the pan. Ken said that this is the first time he had ever seen this in all of his years of experiences with a's. Has anybody ever had this happen to them?

Be back on the road in no time!
