The Lincoln fan assembly as described sounds like a '40 Ford fan assembly. When mine developed some looseness I removed the fan & drilled the hub & installed four 1/4" nuts & bolts to compress the hub/fan together.
I was concerned with the fan getting loose enough to get into the radiator. A couple of thousand miles later it still works fine.
