I found an old chart from Columbia that shows gear ratios in and out of OD as well as engine rpm.
Final drive ratio (through transmission - standard drive / over drive) in:
3rd gear 4:11 / 2:97
2nd gear 6:59 / 4:75
1st gear 11:59 / 8:37

From this chart, I'd almost think I could simply leave it in OD.

Should be turning around 2105 rpms at 55MPH. My tires are about 2" larger in diameter than stock (6:50 x 16) so my numbers are off a bit. But still, 2100 at 55? Hardly working.
