Default Re: 1933 door latch help

I believe the washer with the square hole is located where the outside handle goes into the latch. These two washers allow the handle to be installed by compressing the latch while inserting the handle. Once the latch is released the handle will not come out of the latch. This is to prevent someone from breaking into the car that is locked by removing the outside screws for the handle.

My experience is with the 35-36 Ford door latches, but I believe the principles are the same. I do not believe these washer parts are available except from another used latch.
