Tony, not sure if one way would be easier than the other on the install, but for sure, don't wrench on the engine while on a bell housing engine stand. The bell is the weakest part of the block. A pre-8BA ftathead needs to be supported from the side, not the rear. OK of course, if you also have support at the front...
