Lycoming uses piston squirts aimed at the inside of the skirts to cool pistons on the higher performance engines. They are mounted in the case assembly so they are fixed and feed from the oil feed bores. They have tiny little check valves in them so they control flow amount and shut off if pressure drops to much.

Ford put the little holes in the con rod big ends so they don't squirt too much and likely have lot of centrifugal force acting on them due to the motion of the rotating assembly.
