I've been using the same piece of carpet (Actually a boot carpet for an MGB) for the last 40 years. For kneeling I have a piece of dense foam, it was actually a swimming float the kids used when learning to swim. Had a creeper years ago, never really liked it. My floor is not smooth enough. It was left by the previous owner of my house. I guess he wasn't too keen on it either.
