That 'capitol' A (at the left front corner...on top surface outside of cover, would make this a CRAGAR OHV head. Cragar (CRAney Gar) was the guy who acquired this head from Schofield (who made Schofield OHV head with Miller).
The A was added for purpose of distinguishing Cragar's head from Schofield's head (no A). Legal mumbo jumbo , I guess.
My original Schofield has no A on it.
The Schofield / Miller OHV head came after MILLER made the original 'slope side' OHV Miller head , as stated by Jim B !
When Schofield got involved, he 'squared' off the slope side to add water cooling capacity and that became the norm thereafter.
note:
It's quite possible that the 'rocker box' cover has no words/markings on it, as there was a LOT of iterations/copies that it went thru each time patterns change hands.
