You're missing the brackets.

Seriously, if you can post a picture of what you have, it would help.

The bottom cushion is not attached to the body. It slides in under the back cushion and is held in tension by the lower platform.

The upper cushion has 2 metal tabs on the wood frame that slide into slits in the structure supporting the rear panel.
