If the torque tube drive line is in stock position, I don't think there really is any wear, in lateral lateral motion do to the bolts holding the clam shell together. However, if you "rake" your car the torque tube shifts its position in relation to the outer clam shell surrounding it, whereby metal to metal contact will occur depending on the severity of the "rake".
