Default Re: Fender Installation

General guidelines. Go Slow. Loosely bolt things together first, then finger tight. Move things around a little for best fit. Then tighten.

Fit the headlight bar to the front fenders without the fender brackets. Make sure the headlight bar mounts are level. Reproduction fender brackets tend to not have exactly the correct shape "out of the box" so getting everything aligned first, then fitting the brackets to the aligned fenders will usually give best results. The front fenders should contact the brackets ONLY at the headlight bar mounts and outside bolt mount (rubbing, squeaks and a dent will result in steel fenders, cracking in fiberglass, with extraneous contact.

Fit EVERYTHING at once The body, front apron, radiator shell, hood, running boards and aprons all relate to fender fitting, so do not tighten something arbitrarily assuming it is correct, anything and everything may need to be adjusted.

U shaped castor shims can be used during alignment as they can be easily removed and re-inserted during the alignment process (even easier if you weld a wire "tail" to them). Then replace with washers when the correct height is determined.

Above all, be relaxed and have fun during the process. Take the time needed.
