Col. Vaucher was the commander that flew the lead B-29 in the massive formation of Allied air power that overflew the battleship Missouri anchored in Tokyo Bay as the Japanese representatives, along with General Douglas MacArthur and other allied military personnel signed the articles of surrender on September 2, 1945.
The video posted by Lawrie shows Col. Vaucher getting "checked out" on "Doc", one of only two airworthy B-29's that exist today. The other is "Fifi". On this day, September 24, 2020, Col. Vaucher was acting as the "Honorary Air Boss" for the formation of military aircraft that overflew our nations capitol in Washington, D.C.
