Re: Drill or not to drill sump oil tray
The large holes alongside of the dipper wells were likely put there by Ford to increase the flow rate of oil to the bottom of the oil pan. I suspect that at high speeds, the oil level at the pump intake may get too low without the large oil return holes.
Under no circumstances would I drill holes in the dipper wells because splash lubrication is necessary for the cylinder walls, camshaft lobes and piston pins.
