Rusty, I used a little cut-off disk on my dremel tool, it was a little worn to about the size of a nickel. I had the tubing in my vise and then took the cut-off disk straight down to the end of the tubing leaving the center notches roughed out. Then I finished it off with a file. I tapered the pins sticking up just a little to match the shape of the grooves in the nut.

If I was going to do this a lot I would cut it and weld a T handle on the main shaft.
