I got a model a hotrod that was built in the 50s with a 40 ford cross stear . Steers easy but the side to side movement makes the frame flex left to right.
42 to 47 ford pickups were cross stear along with the 35 to 41.
The chassis under a 42 to 47 is basically the same as the 48 to 52 but that was changed back to drag link in 48.
Big trucks I guess stayed with a drag link for clearance and strength
