Check the clutch linkage and master cyl/assy. If it has a lever with a clevis pined to in on the trans and a rod going to the pedal assy that would be 39 stuff. The 40 would have had a cast piece going from the pedals overf to the trans, trans would have had a clutch shaft with a flat edge to mate to the cast piece from the pedal linkage.
