Why did Ford go to the trouble to mount a magneto here when Wico, Scintilla, and others manufactured magnetos that fit into the location Ford designed for the distributor? For a stationary engine, I don't see the need, ...however in aero-applications where redundant ign. systems are used, or in later racing applications with OHV heads installed, side-drives were popular in use.
