They are also used to hold the headliner retainer strips onto the inside roof channel. I have never seen them offered by any of the repro parts suppliers.
I have noticed that when those clips break (they are mostly made out of lead and aluminum and break very easily), some people have been drilling holes and attaching the retainer strips with sheet-metal screws. They get covered up anyway.
Back in the '70's, I cobbed a bunch of those little clips from a '55 in a junkyard and they later came in pretty handy when I went to replace my headliner.
