The NSRA was started at the behest of Tom Medley of Rod & Custom magazine by Ardun guru Cotton Werksman and Bruce Miller who was the publisher of the old Street Rod magazine. As the association grew it got too large for Cotton, who was building cars and engines and Miller with his magazine to handle, that was when Vernon Walker and someone else who’s name escapes me bought it.
Medley was with Petersen Publishing and they would not fund the staff and office space to run a growing national organization, but apparently Walker saw the opportunity and stepped in.
The original window decal had one of Cotton’s early hot rods, a channeled ‘32 5 window and the slogan under it was “Fun With Cars”.
