I'm with Tinker. If it ain't broke....... I'm no mechanic but if it is in good shape and by your admission "leaks a little" then clean it and refill it with the proper lube as Cas3 suggests in post #10 and drive it. You can monitor it over time and who knows, perhaps with use the leak will diminish. Certainly worth a try before surgery.
