I had a different problem, I think the test is to check if your door fits squarely in the opening. If you are depending on the dove tail to raise your door it won't close with out slamming. also my door latch assembly worked very hard, like the spring is to strong which made it nessesary to slam the door to get the latch to push in. Try holding the outside handle down in the open position then close the door and see if it rubs on the dove tails or, if it closes all the way it may be your latch assembly. good luck
