If there is a vacuum draw (and there should be) where the hot air tube goes to the carb, do not cap it off on the carb. It's designed to pull hot air across the bimetal spring in the choke. Also may over heat in there with no circulation. It's a very small vacuum leak and all carbs like that do it. The slight vacuum leak is compensated for when you adjust the two idle mixture screws and the speed screw. You can put a fine small screen over it if worried about dirt getting inside.
