Based on the typical wear issues with these mechanisms, the pin isn't likely the issue.

You'll need to hold the escutcheon ring back against the door to remove the pin. Use the blade of a screwdriver or other tool for this task. The pin should slide out easily and the inner handle is freed.

More often, the latch mechanism has a couple of wear points that cause the problem you described - outer handle works but not the inner. To access the mechanism, the inspection panel on the door needs to be removed. There are screws by the inner handle and the latch that need to be removed - the outer handle will need be separated as well. Getting the mechanism out of the door requires some dancing - it works better with the window up, if I recall correctly.

With the mechanism out, you'll be able to look over the condition. Repairs are possible but the housing for the latch is a poor design with ear tabs that are prone to cracking. Get it out and let us know what you find.

Happily, there actually are reproduction pieces available - AND THEY FIT - AND THEY WORK!!! Find them on ebay.
