New lining is about 1/4" thick, no real need to measure. you can tell by looking how much is left. they can be used down to 1/8" or less depending on if their riveted or bonded. the main thing is don't let them get thin enough to hit the rivet heads or the shoe and damage the drum. The brakes are adjustable to take up for wear.
