Lash can be measured with a feeler gauge cut down to a point so it slips between the gears. The hard part is trying to figure what you need when there is no clearance because the cam/crank indexing was off and the crank/cam gears are too close. If the cam gear will slip all the way in but have no clearance, a /002 undersized worked for me. If it is really tight, I would describe it to Dan and trust his judgment, recognizing it may take a time or two to get it right.
