The tax predators have been involved in many of the show/flea markets I attend for the last few years. You might enjoy the following, understanding that this happens more than we know.
I live very close to a, no sales tax, state. Without going into detail, one of the businesses I do business with is in this State. My state tax people see fit, every so often, to go into businesses in the adjacent State to audit the books, looking for customers from our State that have bought items and not paid our State tax. Think what you want, they can't do that!!,etc. Maybe it's a courtesy, I don't know, but I can tell you that getting caught is not pleasant. 'nough said.
Here's the kicker. During a follow-up call to the bookkeeper of one of these audited businesses, the bookkeeper asked the tax person how much they yielded with their audits. The answer: "It cost more to collect than the monies yielded".
The underground economy is the only honest kind of transaction!!
