Default Re: bendix

The Bendix starter drive that is offered by the dealers all use the 3/8 bolts.Twelve volts is nothing to be afraid of, Its been the standard of the automobile industry for over 55 years in most cases. I've run both the bendix and barrel drive on 12 volt with no problem. Old Bendix starter drives are liable to give problems no matter what the voltage. I've had several Bendix drives drop bolts over the years on 6 volts, even a bent spring or two. I do prefer the barrel drive, it has no exposed helix to collect oil and clutch dust and fail to kick in.
