If you can get a baby diaper or two, wrap it around the bottom and hold it there with bungee cords and see what you catch.
On your accelerator linkage hang up, that is serious. Fix it and I recommend a redundant spring put on in case one fails. All modern cars have redundancy built in to getting that throttle closed.
