Your upper bushing may already be worn to much. Grab your cam and pull and push it toward and away from the points. If it moves at all, put in new bushings. An easy job. Then put in the fix to oil the upper bushing. I have seen the cam get so hot that it melted the point rubbing block. Take it out and fix it.
