If your liking the bare metal look, could you not just use a wax instead of painting as mentioned in the resent "patina or paint" thread?
Not sure the cost involved but what about ceramic clear coat? Would last longer than a wax and would prevent corrosion with a durable finish. I think it's just applied with a sponge. I've seen guys use this ceramic coating for rims with good results.
