The answer is you need to ADD washers( we call them gaskets over 'ere
) to LOWER the fuel level. Also be aware that if your new float valve is like either of the two on the left in this picture you will probably need at least 2 gaskets to get the correct level.. The two "conventional" valves as shown on the right of the picture usually only need one gasket .( I also use a very light smear of gasket sealant when fitting them )
