Sounds like it is starving for fuel. Is there an in-line filter? Has it been changed? Have you removed the sender and looked in the tank? Is it clean? Are you sure you have the correct gas cap? I think your truck uses a vented cap. The symptoms you have are very similar to a car I once owned. Turned out somebody used some sealant around the sending unit and a small piece of sealant fell off and would partially block the gas line in the tank.
