The way I did it was to trim the diamond pattern to be straight with the outside edge. Then trim the inside so that the inside trim piece goes under the raised lip of the trim. There was a bit of time dry fitting everything before gluing the matting down. Then install inside first, then outside, then the short front and back piece gets riveted to the running board lip. The worst part is fitting the outside trim and crimping it over. I used a fabric cutter and a straight edge to do the cutting.
