Here's a table I made mapping RPM to MPH based on the gear ratios. It lines up pretty closely with the mapping in Tom's article. A good rule of thumb is that your RPM for a given speed in 2nd gear is approx. twice the RPM for that speed in 3rd gear. So to upshift, you drop the RPM by half, and to downshift you double it.
