No not any more, those old rules have long gone so long as you have a [collector] car pre 1989 here, can be left hand drive. We used to have to put decals on saying "left hand drive" and the cars had to be inspected every year, a lot of hoowie!
Anything after '89 it has to conform with Australian Design Rules therefore right hand drive etc etc. My pick up is on a normal license , even legal with no indicators, in fact it past first time over inspection [despite a few minor things wrong] the inspector drove it and was so impressed he passed it no worries.
