The "hogs head" is heavy cast iron & not likely to rust through. You may be seeing the pan rusted through.
You would be best to find a complete engine/transmission unit - hopefully running for this truck.
Something very odd is going on under the hood - could you post pictures of the pan which seems to be mounted upside down & held together by C clamps?
