Default Re: Gulf tire co. tires

Gulf Oil service stations sold branded tires & batteries. Standard oil stations sold Atlas branded tires & batteries. Kelly Springfield would make tires for all of the branded companies under contract. Others may have too. I went on a tour through the plant in Tyler TX when I was a lot younger and they had all sorts of brand name tires being manufactured. One of my Cousins worked there at the time. I remember them selling this stuff up into the late 1970s but it sort of petered out after the decline & buy outs these oil companies went through.

I remember when Standard oil changed its corporate name to Amoco in the mid 80s and Gulf oil went through it's own problems all after the oil embargo of 1973 started to break these companies down. Gulf merged with Standard Oil of California and rebranded both as Chevron. There aren't too many full service stations these days.
