I don't know about Australia but chrome plating of parts here in the US is getting expensive. Aluminum or stainless can be polished. Stainless looks more like nickle when polished but it will stay shiny a lot longer. Steel might be easier to form than stainless but plating adds cost.

Model A Sport Coupe landau bars were all painted originally. They might have plated the center hinge point on the 28/29 but the 30/31 were stainless. They were body color when on a car in 28/29 and black when purchased for a replacement part. All were painted black in 30/31. The 1932 Ford Sport Coupe has bars that are similar to the Australian versions on the 1933 but I don't know if they would fit. Ford USA stopped making Sport Coupes in 1932. It would likely be easier to find some in Australia than here in the US.
